Joint NYU-Poly MSEE Degree/Eurecom Certificate in Mobile Communications

Overview:

EURECOM and the Brooklyn Institute of New York University (“NYU-Poly” newly formed from the merger of the Brooklyn Polytechnic and NYU http://www.poly.edu/) announce the creation of a dual Master of Science program, linking the Mobile Communications Dept. of EURECOM to the Electrical and Computer Engineering Dept of NYU-Poly.

This project links two educational and research institutions across the Atlantic with strengths and international recognition in the area of telecommunication systems, located respectively in vibrant New York City and in Sophia Antipolis, the “Silicon Valley of Europe”.

This joint program is facilitated from the fact that 100% of courses taught currently at EURECOM are in English, and many faculty members at EURECOM have had a significant work experience in US universities.

The two institutions started a pilot program starting Fall 2008. In the pilot program, students initially admitted to the NYU-Poly MS EE and interested in the dual program may elect to spend a semester of courses at EURECOM in Spring after spending the Fall semester in New York. The last semester (MS thesis in a company or academic lab) is co-supervised by the two faculty.

Educational Program Overview:

The planned joint Master program includes:

• Two semesters of lectures (for a total of 24 NYU credits), to be held at Brooklyn (Polytechnic) and Sophia Antipolis (EURECOM).

• French class (free) offered during the EURECOM semester.

• One semester of Masters thesis (6 credits) in either a French or American lab, in an international company lab, or at the two institutions. Research projects will be co-supervised by EURECOM and Polytechnic researchers. Internships completed at a company or at EURECOM are typically paid.

Course Menu:

A. Fall (at Polytechnic): Four courses required (12 credits).

Required Courses:

• EL 5013 Wireless Personal Communication Systems

• EL 5373 Internet Architecture and Protocols

Two out of the following four:

• EL 6013 Principles of Communication systems: Modulation and Coding

• EL 6303 Probability Theory

• EL 6113 Signals, Systems and Transforms

• EL 6713 Electromagnetic Theory and Applications

B. Spring (at Eurecom):

Three courses required + 90 hour lab project (12 credits)

Pick 3 courses from the following 5 so as to form at least 2 sequences with courses picked at the Polytechnic:

• Radio Engineering (Sequence with EL 6713)

• Mobile Networking (Sequence with EL 5013)

• Signal Processing Technology (Sequence with EL 6113)

• Channel Coding (Sequence with EL 6013)

• Statistical Signal Processing (Sequence with EL 6113 or EL 6303)

C. Summer/Fall (6 months at a company or Eurecom or Polytechnic)

MS Thesis (jointly supervised by EURECOM and Polytechnic faculty). In many cases this will be completed as part of a paid company internship facilitated by EURECOM. 6 credits
